(Idaho Freedom Caucus, September 17, 2026)

Today is Constitution Day!

In preparation for honoring today, Idaho Freedom Caucus members were busy coordinating the delivery of U.S. Constitutions to schools across the state.

Federal law requires schools receiving federal funding to provide an educational program about the U.S. Constitution each year on or around September 17th. Schools have flexibility in how they fulfill this requirement so the Idaho Freedom Caucus wanted to help make it easier by providing Constitutions to schools for eighth-grade students across Idaho.

House Education Chairmen Dale Hawkins coordinated the activity and worked with the Idaho Department of Education to get student counts for the schools and coordinated with IFC members to distribute shipments across the districts. The 1917 Society generously donated over 3000 pocket-size constitutions for Idaho students for the project. These pocket-size constitutions also contain the Declaration of Independence, as well as the oath of allegiance for U.S. citizenship. From Boundary to Canyon counties, over 21 schools received their constitutions in time for today’s special celebration.

We are proud to help young Idahoans learn about the founding document that protects our freedoms and defines the responsibilities and limits of government. Understanding the Constitution is an important part of preparing students to become informed and engaged citizens and knowing the foundations of the Republic they live in. If you don’t know where you’ve come from, you certainly won’t know which direction to go from here.

In other news, our members have been busy with campaign season, attending fairs and festivals, meeting constituents, and getting the message out about Prop 1.

Congratulations to Rep. Joe Alfieri for receiving legislator of the year from Idaho Family Policy Center for his work on pro family legislation!

Congratulations to Rep. Steve Tanner for Canyon County Representative of the Year!

Congratulations to Senator Tammy Nichols for Canyon County Senator of the Year, and also for the It’s Time Award from Unplanned Good for her work on adoption and birth mother legislation!
