Beginning Wednesday, September 30, 2026, the south side of the intersection of Hiline Road, Pearl Street, and El Rancho Boulevard will be closed as construction continues on the Hiline Road and Signalization Improvement Project.
Detour signs will be in place to help direct traffic through the area. Drivers are encouraged to use caution, follow posted detours, and allow additional travel time during construction. Work on the north side of the intersection is nearing completion, with road compaction and curb and gutter installation now complete. The roadway remains open to traffic, while excavation and backfilling continue along Pearl Street.
The project will replace the existing four-way stop with a traffic signal and includes several other improvements designed to enhance safety, accessibility, and traffic flow. Improvements include:
- Dedicated turn lanes
- Widening portions of Hiline Road
- New storm drainage infrastructure
- Upgraded sidewalks, curbs, and gutters
- Improved pedestrian ramps to enhance accessibility and meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements
Once complete, the improvements will provide safer and more convenient travel for motorists, pedestrians, and other roadway users.
The City of Pocatello funded the design of the project, while construction is being fully financed through a $2 million Strategic Initiatives Grant awarded by the Idaho Transportation Department through its Local Transportation Grant Program (LTGP). The grant does not require a local funding match. The LTGP supports transportation improvements that enhance safety, accessibility, mobility, and economic opportunity for Idaho communities.
The Hiline Road improvements are part of the City’s ongoing efforts to build a safer, more accessible, and better-connected transportation network, consistent with the goals outlined in the City’s Comprehensive Plan 2040.
