Chubbuck, Idaho – October 20, 2026 – Kami Berger, Municipal Services Director for the City of Chubbuck, has earned the Certified Public Works Professional–Management (CPWP-M) designation from the American Public Works Association (APWA). The credential recognizes public works professionals who demonstrate the knowledge and experience required to manage departments within a public works agency. Berger is currently the third person—and only woman—in Idaho to earn this designation.

Berger earned a bachelor’s degree in health care administration from Idaho State University and has more than 12 years of local government service. She began her public service career as executive assistant to the mayor of Idaho Falls, serving for five years before joining the City of Chubbuck as an office administrator. She later advanced to her current role as Municipal Services Director.

Her professional experience includes budgeting, strategic planning, policy and procedure development, operational efficiency, process improvement, and program implementation. In 2023, Berger earned the Certified Public Manager credential through the State of Idaho. She also serves as board chair and a staff member of Strategic Communities Alliance, where she helps connect small communities with resources that support growth and long-term success.

“Kami’s achievement reflects her dedication to public service and professional excellence. This credential strengthens Chubbuck’s ability to deliver effective municipal services, manage public assets responsibly, prepare for emergencies, and safeguard taxpayer dollars,” said Rodney Burch, mayor of Chubbuck.

To earn the CPWP-M designation, applicants must have at least three years of public works supervisory experience and demonstrate their ability to manage a public works department. Required competencies include communication; budget and finance; human resource management; administrative operations; procurement and contract administration; project management; asset management; emergency management; and a broad understanding of public works operations.

APWA launched the Certified Public Works Professional program in August 2018. For more information about the program, contact the APWA certification team at certification@apwa.org.
