On Thursday, the CDC “streamlined” its recommendations for those exposed to COVID-19. The new guidance “acknowledges that the pandemic is not over, but also helps us move to a point where COVID-19 no longer severely disrupts our daily lives,” says the CDC’s Greta Massetti, PhD.
Significant changes include:
- Recommended response to COVID exposure is the same for everyone, regardless of vaccination status
- Those exposed to COVID are encouraged to mask for ten days and test on Day 5, rather than quarantine automatically
- Those who test positive for COVID should isolate for five days if their illness was mild, or ten days if their illness was moderate to severe.
