ONEIDA COUNTY, IDAHO – Idaho State Police is investigating a single-vehicle fatality crash that occurred on September 14th, 2026, at approximately 09:27 p.m., northbound on I-15 near milepost 0.3, just north of Portage, Utah.
A 2022 BMW Z4, driven by a 66-year-old male from Pocatello, Idaho, was travelling northbound on I-15. The BMW collided with an elk that was in the roadway.
The driver succumbed to his injuries on scene. It was unknown if he was wearing a seat belt.
Both northbound lanes were blocked for approximately an hour for responders before opening the right lane. The left lane remained closed for approximately another two and a half hours.
Idaho State Police was assisted by Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, Oneida County EMS, and Idaho Transportation Department.
