Last night, voters in Marsh Valley School District 21, Zone 1, voted to recall school board member Kathy Egan. 71.1% of eligible voters cast ballots in favor of the recall.
A recall petition was launched this summer after it was revealed that the school board was seeking to “consolidate” schools, looking to close some schools in the district in order to save money. One of the options being considered was the closing of Downey Elementary School. Downey Elementary is in Zone 1, where Egan is the elected school board member.
The recall statement on the ballot cited, “poor performance of the school district, declining enrollment, poor financial oversight” as reasons for the recall.
